This Week on PCH, Huntington Beach's Hotel Bars Are Changing Costumes

Three Huntington Beach resorts on Pacific Coast Highway are each in the middle of a different season this week, and those seasons won't line up again until next fall.

Every year these three resorts dress up for the season, and in 2026 each one keeps its own calendar. Paséa's rooftop bar is moving from Halloween to Día de los Muertos. The Hyatt Regency's grille is in the final days of its haunted makeover. Kimpton Shorebreak's '80s ski lodge opened last week and plans to stay through the holidays. From today, Thursday, Oct. 29, through Sunday, Nov. 1, all three seasonal runs overlap. After that they drop off one at a time, so the order you visit them in matters.

Tonight is the last night at Treehouse

Start with Treehouse on PCH, the rooftop bar at Paséa Hotel & Spa, 21080 Pacific Coast Highway. Its Halloween cocktail menu is printed with a run of "October 5 - 29," which makes tonight the last chance to order from it. The Enchanted Treehouse drink menu lists the Black Magic Margarita, Wake the Dead, Devil's Kiss, Blood Bag, Cristalino Creeper and Blood Shot.

Treehouse's biggest Halloween night has already happened. The Enchanted Treehouse Halloween Party was last Saturday, Oct. 24, a 21+ evening that ran from 7 p.m. to midnight. What's left tonight is quieter: the same menu on the rooftop, one evening before it changes.

The Black Magic Margarita is the drink to follow down the coast. Pete's Sunset Grille, a short way up PCH at the Hyatt Regency, serves a drink with the same name. Greer's OC describes the Hyatt version as Lalo Blanco Tequila, fresh blackberries, lemon and lime juices, agave nectar and a black salt rim. Treehouse's version stops pouring tonight. The Hyatt's has four more days.

Friday through Sunday, the Treehouse rooftop turns to marigolds

On Friday, Treehouse switches holidays. Paséa's Día de los Muertos Weekend at Treehouse runs Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, with festive décor on the rooftop and a DJ all weekend. The hotel invites guests to come in Catrina skeleton attire or face paint "to honor the tradition and the loved ones whose memories live on."

The hours change each day, and they're the main thing to plan around:

  • Friday, Oct. 30: 4 p.m. to midnight
  • Saturday, Oct. 31: noon to midnight
  • Sunday, Nov. 1: noon to 10 p.m.

The event page has an RSVP link. The Día de los Muertos menu has none of the Halloween drinks. Instead it lists the Orange Cinnamon Old Fashioned, Spiced Apple Margarita, Coco Spritz, Blood Orange Cocktail, Orange Blossom Paloma, Marigold Margarita, Calavera Smoke and Ofrenda Old Fashioned. The weekend gets the most daylight on Saturday and Sunday, with the rooftop opening at noon. That's the easiest way to see the décor before sunset, when the evening crowd fills the deck.

Pete's Spookeasy keeps Halloween going through Monday

Of the three venues, the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa at 21500 Pacific Coast Highway keeps Halloween the longest. According to Greer's OC, Pete's Sunset Grille has been running as Pete's Spookeasy since Sept. 27 and stays that way through Monday, Nov. 2.

Pete's is the one stop of the three with a full dinner menu, and the Halloween names are on real entrées. The Grill-Reaper's Ribeye is a 10-ounce house-butchered ribeye with crispy fries and cowboy butter. The Haunted Harbor Cake is a lump crab cake with roasted corn salsa and house remoulade. Pasta From the Black Lagoon is squid ink spaghetti with sautéed shrimp and lobster cream sauce. Starters include Dracula Bat Wings and a Char-BOO-terie board. The menu also has a Haunted Harvest Pot Pie, the Poultrygeist Sandwich and Pete's Monster Wave Burger. Besides the Black Magic Margarita, the bar serves a tropical Creepy Colada and Potion No. 13, which is pumpkin-washed Templeton Rye Whiskey with pumpkin pie spice syrup. For dessert there's Witches Brew Tiramisu, made with chai-soaked chocolate ladyfingers and purple sweet potato mascarpone mousse, or Poison Apple Toffee Pudding.

You can book through Tock for parties of one to eight, and the restaurant also takes walk-ins when it has space. Tock shows the restaurant's hours as 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Two outdoor screenings are left this weekend

New this year, the Hyatt added Pete's Spooktacular Movie Nights, free outdoor screenings in the Lighthouse Courtyard. They're open to locals and resort guests, and reservations are required. Most of the October lineup has already screened. Two nights are left:

  1. Friday, Oct. 30: Coco, which fits nicely with the Día de los Muertos weekend at Treehouse
  2. Saturday, Oct. 31: Ghostbusters

The Coco screening and Treehouse's Día de los Muertos opening fall on the same Friday, a short way apart on PCH. You can see both if you plan the order. Treehouse opens at 4 p.m., which leaves time for a drink on the rooftop before the movie at the Hyatt.

The ski lodge is already open, and it lasts the longest

Pier Summit Ski Lodge at Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach Resort is the only theme of the three that will outlast the week. Visit Huntington Beach lists the '80s pop-up bar as opening Oct. 22 and running through Jan. 2. On the resort's Pier Summit page, the rules are short: no reservations, and 21+ only.

The resort describes neon décor and lighting, a life-size yeti, and servers in retro one-piece ski outfits who show you the menu through vintage viewfinders. Shorebreak says it also plans '80s programming, including monthly themed Jazzercise classes and live music sets. The resort's photo gallery shows past favorites: a Snow Bunny cocktail, a cocktail in a Marty Moose glass, High Peak Fireside Fondue in sweet and savory versions, West Slope Rosti, and a Ski Lift shot on a shotski. Some of those photos are from earlier seasons, so the 2026 menu may be different.

The hours matter most this weekend. A Shorebreak page lists Pier Summit as open Tuesday through Saturday, 5 to 10 p.m. If that schedule holds, the ski lodge is closed Sunday, Nov. 1, and Monday, Nov. 2, the last two days of Pete's Spookeasy. Call the resort before planning a Sunday visit.

How the week lines up

Thursday through Saturday, all three venues are running. After that, they drop off one at a time:

  • Thursday, Oct. 29: Treehouse Halloween menu on its last night, Pete's Spookeasy, Pier Summit
  • Friday, Oct. 30: Treehouse Día de los Muertos from 4 p.m., Pete's Spookeasy plus Coco in the courtyard, Pier Summit
  • Saturday, Oct. 31: Treehouse Día de los Muertos from noon, Pete's Spookeasy plus Ghostbusters, Pier Summit
  • Sunday, Nov. 1: Treehouse Día de los Muertos until 10 p.m., Pete's Spookeasy; Pier Summit is closed on its posted schedule
  • Monday, Nov. 2: Pete's Spookeasy only, on its final day
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3 onward: Pier Summit only, through Jan. 2

Friday and Saturday are the only days with all three venues running and a movie in the Lighthouse Courtyard. Those two days are the core of the week. Monday is the quietest night left for Halloween at Pete's, after the weekend crowds have gone home.

After Nov. 2, the season moves inland

The ski lodge won't be the only seasonal option left after Monday. A few miles inland, Old World's Oktoberfest continues Wednesday through Sunday at the Biergarten, 7561 Center Ave. It runs through Nov. 8, with live music and German dance programming. That gives you about one more weekend of fall before Pier Summit is the last themed bar running.
